COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is making his first trip to South Carolina since forming a presidential campaign exploratory committee.

Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said Wednesday that Romney will stop in the Columbia area Saturday. She said details have not been worked out.

Romney has yet to set up an organization in South Carolina but plans to announce a staff hire Thursday.

Romney is considered a GOP primary front-runner and is fresh off a $10 million fundraising marathon.

He was criticized in his 2008 bid for not being in South Carolina in the final days of the first-in-the-South primary.

John McCain won the state.
