COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Republicans are giving presidential hopefuls a second chance in the spotlight after the nation's first 2012 debate.

The state GOP said Thursday it will hold a presidential candidate forum on May 6 at its Silver Elephant Banquet in Columbia.

That's a day after the state Republican Party and Fox News host a "First in the South" debate in Greenville for hopefuls.

State GOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd says the banquet event will give candidates in waiting a chance to lay out their views in this key early primary state.

Floyd says the list of forum participants will be released later. Several potential candidates including former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum are expected to attend the debate.
