COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia City Council is talking about increasing water rates, although nothing is on paper yet.

The thought of raising water rates is scary to Mark McGrady.  He manages the Seven Oaks Plant Shop on St. Andrews Road and he uses a lot of water.

"Two folks have to water, pretty much 2 to 3 hours in the morning, so that's two hoses running as hard as they can go every morning," said McGrady.

He says if the water rates go up, he'll likely have to pass those rates onto his customers.

We contacted Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and City Manager Steve Gantt for details on the potential hike.  Both men were unavailable for an interview Wednesday.
