COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The measure approved Wednesday must now be considered by the House where a bill supporting the cameras has been tied up in committee.

The Ridgeland cameras are the only ones on the open interstate for 2,000 miles between Canada and Miami. There is a camera in a work zone on I-95 in Maryland.

Advocates say the Ridgeland cameras save lives, reduce accidents and cut down on speeding. But Sen. Larry Grooms says South Carolina doesn't want to be known as the nation's speed trap.

The cameras in Ridgeland have also sparked a federal lawsuit.

Do you think the cameras are helpful in reducing speeding in the State?  Or do you think they give the State a bad reputation?
