Plane crash kills one near Elgin

ELGIN (WACH) -- Officials say one person is dead after a plane crashed near Exit 87 on I-20.

The Kershaw County Coroner says the single-engine crash happened near Larry Jeffers Road outside Elgin Friday afternoon.

Deputies say the plane nearly hit power lines as it crashed to the ground.

One witness says he saw the plane flying low when it flipped over and hit the ground.  Another says she was driving when she saw the shaddow pass over her car just before 3 p.m. 

There's no word what cause the plane to crash, where the plane was coming from or where it was going. 

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pilot.
