COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A longtime contributor to the University of South Carolina has been replaced on the school's board of trustees.

Darla Moore, the billionaire president of an investment firm and the woman who the USC business school is named after, has been replaced by Lexington attorney and Gov. Nikki Haley campaign contributor Tommy Cofield.

A spokesman at Haley's office confirmed the switch early Tuesday evening.

“As is the case with many of our appointees, the governor looked for a fresh set of eyes to put in a critical leadership position –- a governor’s appointee to the USC board," Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey explains.  "We have a great deal of respect for Ms. Moore and everything she has done for the university and our state, and we look forward to her future service.”

Moore was appointed to the board by the governor in 1999.

Cofield officially took over the position on March 10.
