COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Friends, family and community members gathered to remember Steve Kim, the Forest Acres restaurant owner that police say was murdered last week.
A funeral was held at Greenlawn Memorial on Leesburg Road Monday at noon and was followed by a burial at Fort Jackson.
Kim was remembered by the community as not only the owner of Dino's, the popular restaurant on Decker Blvd, but as a community leader.
"With him having a lot of businesses in the community, he was supporting so many people," says Kim's son-in-law Ryan Long. "We found out he was helping people we didn't even know about, financially, and spiritually."
Ryan Long, Kim's son-in-law, has only been part of the family for a short time but says Steve Kim treated him as if he were his own son.
"All the closest family members call him "appa" which means daddy in Korean," says Long.
Investigators say Kim was shot and killed at Dino's during a lengthy Columbia crime spree committed by Mario Stokes. They say Stokes robbed multiple businesses at gunpoint, carjacked a woman and led police on a chase before taking his own life last week.
A memorial for Kim was held Sunday at the Carolina Korean Presbyterian Church on Barbara Drive.
