"Snip-its" is a franchise salon aimed at helping children get a hair cut especially those with developmental disabilities.

The owners decided to open a store in Lexington after an experience with their daughter.

"About a year ago we took her to the salon to get her first haircut. Needless to say it wasn't the experience we thought we were going to get. My wife holding her down while she was covered in hair kicking and screaming," says Gil Davis.

The Snip-its corporation partners with the National Autism Speaks organization to train stylists on how to deal with autistic children and those with special needs.                          

"A child with autism usually, because of sensory issues will not allow anyone to get their haircut or have their finger nails cut," says Susie Phillips.           

Susie Phillips works with the South Carolina Autism Society.

She says as a parent she knows how tough it can be to cut a child's hair.

"I have a twelve year old with autism and we literally have to have someone hold him and get the clippers and cut his hair," says Phillips.

To make the experience more enjoyable for kids, there's a video game console at each station that kids can play with while getting a trim.

And for those kids who can't be away from mom or dad too long there's a parent chair right in front of the stylist.

There’s even a spa like room and a hollywood make-up room for the little divas.

The owners say the salon has just what a young child needs to relax and enjoy.

As part of their grand opening celebration the owners will donate twenty percent of their weekend proceeds to the South Carolina Autism Society.
