BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- The company that installed speed cameras along Interstate 95 in Ridgeville is trying to expand its business to other cities.

The Beaufort Gazette reports iTraffic president Bill Danzell has asked cities in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York to consider putting in the company's cameras to catch speeders.

Danzell wouldn't specify which cities he has approached, saying it might hurt his efforts to expand his business.

The speed cameras in Ridgeville have received sharp criticism, including a federal lawsuit and a bill in South Carolina that would outlaw the system and make the town pay back fines collected and a $500 penalty for each driver cited.
