Lexington (WACH) -- Closed signs in front of businesses on Sunday morning are a thing of the past in Lexington County.

Lexington County Council did away with the blue laws in place with a unanimous vote during a special meeting Thursday night.

In the third and final reading of the ordinance, council members lifted the law that prohibited many businesses to open before 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.

A heavy force in the decision was the fact that Amazon.com has agreed to open a distribution center near Cayce.  The blue laws would have prohibited them from being open during those hours.

The new ordinance takes place starting this Sunday.
