COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The Republican Governors Association is investing in its South Carolina candidate by airing an ad that makes questionable claims as it literally spins President Barack Obama into Democratic gubernatorial nominee Vincent Sheheen.

The latest ad from Republican nominee Nikki Haley also began airing this week. Both are significant statewide advertising buys.

The association's ad labels Sheheen an Obama liberal who supports government control of health care and opposes Arizona's immigration law.

Sheheen's campaign says the ad is simply untrue.

Sheheen has repeatedly said he supports parts of the health care law, but opposes its business mandates and added Medicaid costs. He voted for South Carolina's anti-illegal immigration law and is not opposed to making it tougher.
