COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Visitors to Columbia's Riverbanks Zoo have a new attraction to see with the addition of a new baby giraffe announced Friday.

The zoo says the new giraffe was born last month and named Isabelle. Zoo officials routinely do not immediately announce the birth of new animals.

At birth on September 6 the female giraffe named Isabelle weighed approximately 134 pounds and measured nearly 5 feet 6 inches tall, according to curator of mammals John Davis.

Isabelle has since been growing quickly. She gained nearly 23 pounds in her first wee, said Davis.

Isabelle is the fourth giraffe born at Riverbanks Zoo since February 2009. Riverbanks now has seven giraffes in total. Zoo visitors can expect to see Isabelle on exhibit from 9:30am to 12pm each day.
