COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A sentencing date has been set for former Columbia city councilman E.W. Cromartie.
According to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles, Cromartie will appear before District Court Judge David C. Norton on October 15 at 10:30 a.m.
Cromartie was the longest-serving councilman before pleading guilty to federal tax evasion.
In March, Cromartie admitted to failing to pay more than $25,000 in federal income taxes. His plea agreement shows Cromartie also admitted making more than $200,000 in cash deposits and withdrawals just below the IRS minimums for transaction reporting requirements.
Cromartie faces up to 25 years in prison.
Cromartie resigned from his position on city council.. He served for more than 25 years.
Brian DeQuincey Newman replaced Cromartie in a special election.
