MIAMI (AP) -- Hurricane Igor is getting a little stronger in the open Atlantic Ocean.

The U.S. Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday that Igor had top sustained winds of 80 mph (130 kph) and is moving west at 18 mph (30 kph). The storm is forecast to continue in this general direction during the next couple of days, but should slow down some.

Igor is expected to continue to strengthen and could become a major hurricane with maximum sustained winds of at least 111 mph (178 kph) by Monday night.

The storm poses no immediate threat to land.
