CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Container volume at the Port of Charleston has rebounded to where it was almost two years ago but the South Carolina State Ports Authority has been told the future is still uncertain.
Authority president and CEO Jim Newsome says while container volume last month was up 26 percent compared with July of 2009, he thinks the coming months will show a leveling.
Newsome says shipments from abroad for the holidays came earlier this year and not in the fall, usually a busy time at the ports.
Recent months have shown an increase but container volume was off 5 percent compared for the year that ended June 30, compared with the previous year.
