COLUMBIA (AP) -- While her bid has altered the face of South Carolina politics, GOP governor candidate Nikki Haley has also changed her stance on several issues over the years.

Haley's campaign and the state Republican Party on Friday defended recent changes she's made in her positions.

Haley said in 2004 that it would be close minded to sign a tax pledge but she signed the Americans for Tax Reform anti-tax increase pledge in May. Her campaign said the pledge only reflects the what she's done as a lawmaker.

In April, Haley said no member of Congress should be re-elected if they supported the Wall Street bailout. That included U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson. She now supports Wilson's re-election and her campaign says he's the only conservative in that race.
