ORANGEBURG (WACH) -- A search committee has announced their recommendations for a new president at South Carolina State University.
The school's board refused to renew President George Cooper's contract earlier this month.
An ad hoc committee for the university announced two candidates they'd like to see fill the position; Judge Merl F Code and Dr. Leonard A. McIntyre.
Judge Code is an Upstate attorney who is active in the community working with numerous organizations. Code played professional football for eight years and a graduate of the USC School of Law.
Dr. McIntyre, a New Orleans native has worked for schools around the country. He served as Interim President at South Carolina State University in 2008.
McIntyre is currently the director of a program at SCSU that develops, prints and distributes textbooks to African nations and is the school's Special Assistant to the President for International Affairs.
The school's new president will become the third in three years.
