COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Republican Party meets in two weeks, where they may address the firestorm surrounding state Senator Jake Knotts.

Thursday night, the Executive Committee of the Lexington County GOP passed a resolution of censure against Knotts and also asked the senator to resign.

Knotts responded saying he would not do so.

It all stems from the "ragheads" remark made by Knotts last week in reference to Nikki Haley and President Obama.

According to one prominent Republican, the state party's executive committee could take similar action on June 26.

"In terms of what strong action may be taken, that's up to the state executive committee as it was with Governor Sanford when he had his issues last year," explains Joel Sawyer, Executive Director of the South Carolina Republican Party.  "The state committee met as a group and asked him to resign, so it would basically be the same process again this year."

Knotts says he plans to run for re-election in 2012.
