COLUMBIA -- The Statehouse became a "grime scene" Wednesday morning.
A display marked the start of a new campaign that kicked off this week by a collection of state politicians, educators and health officials.
May 5 has been dubbed South Carolina Clean Hands Day. And a CSI themed campaign focused on the importance of this simple, but effective practice both at work and at home.
"It's a fun and interactive way to get people's attention about the life and death importance of proper hand hygiene," explains Dr. Rick Foster, Senior VP of the South Carolina Hospital Association.
"I can assure you that if you wash your hands properly on a regular basis, you will have a better quality of life and more money for our state," adds Senator Ralph Anderson.
Events were scheduled throughout the day as part of the campaign. South Carolina is the first state to rise to the World Health Organization's Hand Hygiene Challenge.
