COLUMBIA (AP) -- South Carolina legislators say they'll try again next week to discuss a bill that would require women seeking an abortion to wait at least a day before having the procedure.

A committee of House and Senate members were set to meet Tuesday to hash out differences in legislation passed by each chamber. One House member showed up but then left, meaning there weren't enough members present to hold a meeting.

Sen. Kevin Bryant said the bill is too important an issue for such games.

Rep. Greg Delleney authored the bill. He says senators are either being disingenuous or not communicating with staff. He said he made it clear he needed to reschedule.

Both versions would increase the wait time. The House wants to require a second trip to a clinic for the procedure.
