COLUMBIA -- Participation has been overwhelming in a statewide appliance rebate program that launched Wednesday.
South Carolina issued a multi-million dollar program aimed at boosting the economy and reducing emissions, all by trading in old, inefficient appliances.
And one day after its kick-off, the mail-in portion of the fund is already gone. However, $1.5 million in instant rebates remains.
While going green is saving consumers green, it's also helping retailers, making it a win-win situation for all.
"Top load washers are 40 to 60 gallons of water, and their energy rating is a lot better," explains Angela Wills, of Columbia Appliance & Service. "I think the rebate yesterday was a great incentive to get people in. Like I said, yesterday we did pretty well."
The rebates range from $50 to $500 depending on the appliance.
