COLUMBIA -- There is more fallout Friday after former City Councilman E.W. Cromartie announced his resignation due to the fact he is facing tax evasion charges.

On Tuesday when he resigned, Cromartie sent out a letter to people in District II about an emergency advisory committee meeting on Thursday.

It was billed as a meeting with guest candidates who are running for office.

Attorney Steve Benjamin was listed as the guest speaker according to the announcement.

But several media outlets attempting to cover the event at Bishop's Memorial AME Church were turned away by church officials.

Those same church officials denied Cromartie being inside.

A spokesman for Steve Benjamin denies the mayoral candidate's presence at the meeting.
