Things are moving full speed ahead on the future site of West Columbia's Farmer's Market. It's not where you would expect to find a politician, but on Monday Congressman Joe Wilson took a break from the campaign trail to try his hand at construction.
"I love working in the yard," said Representative Joe Wilson. "This is just an extension for me and I find it so positive."
Just as positive, the nearly 1,400 people the 175-acre site will soon employ.
Dozens of construction workers, like Rocky Oswald are already hard at work building the facility, brick-by-brick.
"There's not a lot of construction going on, but construction means jobs," said Oswald.
In a state with record-high unemployment, Oswald says he's hoping there's even more on the horizon.
"I'll work until these four buildings right here are finished, which is probably towards the end of June," said Oswald.
"We must have policies that promote jobs and promote particularly small businesses to grow to add employees," said Wilson
In the meantime work is moving forward on building the state's economy.
