LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH) -- A Gaston man accused of shaking his infant son to death was denied bond Tuesday by a Lexington County judge. 18-year-old Lexie Dial faces homicide by child abuse charges after investigators say he got frustrated when his 5-month-old son Joshua couldn't walk and then shook the child.

Dial's grandmother Reba Hill was in the courtroom and fainted as she heard the judge deny bond.

Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman determined in January the infant died from blunt-force trauma to the head. According to Lexington County deputies, Dial and his infant son were alone in their home at the time of the incident.

"When the child didn't walk, he got frustrated and grabbed the child underneath his armpits and started shaking it very violently," said Lexington County Sheriff James Metts.

Hill told WACH Fox before the hearing she thinks this was a tragic accident and Dial did not intend to hurt his son.
