It was slow going for travelers in and out of Columbia's airport Monday.

"This is a clear sign that this hasn't gone away," said traveler Jose Correa.

He and his girlfriend Catherine Meck both flew in from the New York area.  They know after this week's attempted attack, to expect heightened security in airports across the nation.

"They are definitely more strict with the bags and I see more people being pulled off after you go through the metal detectors," said Meck.

"The only thing that I did see that was a little different than usual is TSA was checking bags right before you board the plane, and it was just randomly," said Correa.

Those random checks are part of the additional screening measures.  According to the TSA website quick and easy boarding may be a thing of the past.

"I would rather them take a couple of minutes out of my time and make me feel a little bit safer, than not do it," said Correa.

In addition to the increase in airport security, Correa says he's also on high alert.

"I'm very aware of my surroundings and I try to do my best to keep an eye out for myself," said Correa.  "Because there are only so many eyes that the officials have."

It's a combined effort to better protect passengers.
