Harvest Hope Food Bank has more to feed during the holidays.

COLUMBIA -- It’s been a tough year for food banks in the Palmetto State, and the holiday season is when demand reaches it peak.

Donations is the only thing on the Harvest Hope Food Bank’s Christmas wish list.

“During the holidays, we have so many more people coming out,” said Amy Lowery of Harvest Hope.

With pre-packaged $5 bags of food, the Hungry Relief Program held in conjunction with BI-LO, makes it easy to give back to the needy.

“I wish there was something more that I could do,” says Jeanette Gamble, “but I know by giving to Harvest Hope that I am helping.”The food bank says there is a changing face of hunger with those who use to give, now taking donations themselves due to a faltering economy.

“There is always a lot of needy people out there,” says Helen Burden, “not just this time of the year, but year round, so I just try to help when I can.”

If you haven’t already purchased a Hunger Relief bag or you would like to donate another, BI-LO located on Devine Street and St. Andrews Road in Columbia will be selling them until December 26th.
