AIKEN -- Aiken County Sheriff's Deputies have a man in custody charged with robbing a Kangaroo Express convenience store. A department spokesman says the suspect's father tipped off police about his son's involvement.

Shaun Benson, 26, is charged with armed robbery. According to department spokesman Lieutenant David Turno, Benson turned himself in to authorities Tuesday morning without incident after his father made contact with deputies and arranged the surrender.

Benson is currently being held in the Aiken County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
