Things are getting back to normal in Gilbert after a train derailed early Sunday morning.
Officials say shortly after five on Sunday morning, eight railroad cars jumped the tracks, including one tanker car loaded with thousands of gallons of sulfuric acid.
Lexington county authorities blocked-off the area and issued voluntary evacuations for folks living near the tracks.
Officials say nearby residents are in the clear Monday night, but say it could be quite a while before investigators determine what caused the train to come off the tracks.
It all happened at Isaiah Hall and Hayes Crossing roads.
On Monday crews worked to remove the remaining cars from the tracks including a tanker filled with thousands of gallons of sulfuric acid.
The biggest concern for those living near the site, was the potential threat of fumes from the acid, fumes that health officials say could intensify if mixed with water.
The threat caused several residents to evacuate their homes on Sunday.
DHEC officials tell WACH FOX News that the damage wasn’t severe enough to cause any leak, and there should be no remaining health risks for the residents who live near the crash site.
The concern now seems to be on repairing the parts of the track that were damaged so trains can once again travel through the area.
