SWANSEA, S.C. -- Some residents say the Swansea police are issusing tickets past the city limits, and that's becoming a growing concern for them.
One resident told WACH FOX News that he was recently stopped for speeding outside the Swansea city limits. The officer told him that he could give him a $200 ticket, but he would help him out and give the Swansea resident an $80 dollar city ordinance violation instead.
David Moss says, "It's a trap, and Swansea is just looking for money."
WACH FOX News tried to talk Swansea Police and the Highway Patrol, but neither agency wanted to comment on the issue. However, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department said they have given the Swansea Police Department the green light to issue tickets outside the city limits, but if that happens, they must be written as a county ticket.
David Moss says that is not always the case. He says, "They have signs in Swansea saying where are the city limits. It's like they have no jurisdiction; they can roam wherever they want."
