LEXINGTON COUNTY -- Lexington County deputies have a man in custody after they say he was operating a methamphetamine laboratory near Gilbert.

Lexington County narcotics officers arrested Shannon Alton Crapps, 39, Tuesday at his home at 462 South Fork Road. According to Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts, this is the second time Crapps has been caught manufacturing methamphetamine.

Metts said officers found chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine inside Crapps' home as well as more than one gram of methamphetamine. In addition, officers found several pipes filled with a substance that appeared to be gun powder, Metts said. A time fuse had been installed in one end of the pipes.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and seized the explosive devices, Metts said.

Crapps was being held on Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing.
