IRS owes hundreds of residents money

COLUMBIA -- The Internal Revenue Service has released its annual list of undelivered tax refunds and hundreds of Midlands residents are due to receive a check.

According to the IRS, more than 4,500 taxpayers across the Carolinas are owed more than $4.5 million.

In Richland County, the IRS says it owes 118 citizens an average of $885 apiece. The IRS says it owes 74 Lexington County citizens an average refund of $625.

The IRS says the most common reason for citizens not receiving their check is a person moving and not updating their address with the postal service. Taxpayers owed money need to file a change of address using Form 8822 on the IRS website or call the IRs at 1-800-TAX-FORM.
