COLUMBIA, S.C.  -- Some South Carolina residents will be receiving an extra unemployment check in the upcoming days after a glitch in a state computer system.

According to Employment Security Commission spokesman Clark Newsom, approximately 150 citizens were mailed duplicate copies of unemployment checks last week. He said the agency mails roughly 15,000 checks per week.

Newsom said citizens are required by law to return the duplicate check to their local unemployment office. He said anyone who cashes both checks will be held responsible for reimbursing the extra money.

It's the second time this year the agency has mailed two checks to some citizens. In July, the Employment Security Commission said it mistakenly sent duplicate unemployment checks to about 1,250 people out of work.
