WINNSBORO, S.C. (AP) -- The first attorney to represent a 12-year-old South Carolina boy who killed his grandparents and set their house on fire is testifying for prosecutors.
Former public defender Yale Zamore (ZAY-more) was the first witness to take the stand in Winnsboro on Thursday in the hearing to determine if Christopher Pittman will get a second chance in court.
Zamore represented Pittman during a hearing to determine if he would be tried as an adult for the shooting deaths.
Pittman shot his grandparents and set fire to their Chester County home in 2001. His attorneys unsuccessfully argued the slayings were influenced by the antidepressant Zoloft -- a charge the drug manufacturer vigorously denied.
He is serving 30 years in prison.
