(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An ex-convict charged with killing a 12-year-old South Carolina boy who knocked on the man's door on Halloween night has pleaded not guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Quentin Lamar Patrick was arraigned in Columbia on Tuesday on a charge of being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition.

The charge is connected to guns found in Patrick's home in Sumter. Police say the 22-year-old man with multiple drug convictions emptied an AK-47 into his front door, walls and windows when he heard a knock at his door.

Patrick told investigators he thought he was being robbed. He has been charged with murder, assault and battery with intent to kill, and assault with intent to kill.

T.J. Darrisaw was killed in the rain of at least 29 bullets. A brother and the boys' father were injured.
