Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives are searching for a 44-year-old Hanahan man who is wanted on an arrest warrant for armed robbery in connection with a robbery that occurred on Tuesday, December 30 at a bank on Sunset Boulevard near West Columbia.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives on Tuesday afternoon obtained the arrest warrant for Jeffery Patrick Frye, 44, of 6240 Old Point Road, Apartment A-16, Hanahan. Frye is 5-foot-8 and weighs 200 pounds. Frye has brown hair and brown eyes.

The arrest warrant alleges that at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday Frye entered a branch of First Citizens Bank at 2830 Sunset Boulevard with the intent to steal money, Metts said. Frye approached a teller at the bank, placed one of his hands in a pocket of his clothing to suggest that he was armed with a deadly weapon and demanded money.

Frye stole an undisclosed amount of money from the bank and then drove away from the bank in a newer model red Volkswagen Beetle convertible that has a black top, Metts said. At the time of the robbery, Frye was wearing eyeglasses and a blue stocking cap on his head.

Frye also is wanted by the North Charleston Police Department in connection with a robbery, the Mount Pleasant Police Department in connection with the theft of the vehicle used in Tuesday's robbery and the Hanahan Police Department in connection with a theft, Metts said.

Metts asked anyone with information about Tuesday's bank robbery or Frye's whereabouts to call the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.

Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Lexington County Sheriff's Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com), Metts said.
