NEWBERRY, S.C. (AP) -- A former Newberry College basketball player has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill after police say he fired a shot at people going into a restaurant and wounded one person.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said in a news release that 22-year-old Terrance Maurice Spillers of North Charleston turned himself in Saturday afternoon following the early morning shooting. Police had no information about whether he had an attorney.
Foster says one person was shot in the back, but the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Foster says the shooting happened at a Waffle House shortly after a fight involving about 40 people at a graduation party for Spillers. A security guard broke up the fight and the party with pepper spray.
