COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- State Treasurer Curtis Loftis is holding a symposium on fraud detection and prevention in government programs.

Local and state officials will be on hand Tuesday at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center to share strategies on safeguarding public information. In addition to Loftis, Bank of America security officer Chris Swecker and South Carolina Inspector General Patrick Maley are scheduled to speak.

Last month, Gov. Nikki Haley announced that roughly 3.6 million personal South Carolina income tax returns had been put in danger after an international hacking attack. State officials later said that up to 657,000 businesses were also compromised in what some experts have said may be the largest ever cyber-attack against a state tax department.
