COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina House member beaten in the Republican primary is suing to have the election overturned.
The Anderson Independent-Mail reports B. R. Skelton is asking a judge to rule challenger Ed Harris wasn't eligible to run because he did not file the proper financial paperwork at the right time. Similar problems knocked nearly 250 other challengers off the June 12 primary ballots for both Democrats and Republicans.
Harris beat Skelton by 73 votes for the Pickens County seat.
Harris says the suit is a waste of taxpayer money and Skelton needs to move on.
Skelton also sued state Republican Party Chairman Chad Connolly, who says his party likes to settle things at the ballot box, not in the courtroom.
