At least 45 protesters were arrested in Chicago Sunday during the protests marking the NATO summit, according to reports.

Those arrested included members of Occupy Chicago and Occupy Wall Street, a lawyer and a Getty Image photographer, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Four police officers suffered minor injuries in violent confrontations with some of the demonstrators. One was stabbed in the leg.

A two-hour confrontation centered on the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Cermak Road in Chicago, near the convention center where the NATO delegates were meeting, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Police estimated that about 3,000 people turned out for protests on Sunday, below the 10,000 that organizers had hoped for, reports Reuters.

Later in the evening, about 200 protesters cheered and sang songs outside of a police station in Chicago as some of those who were marching in protests earlier in the day were freed from jail.

Inside the convention center, Afghanistan was a top topic of conversation for those attending the NATO summit. Leaders of the 28-member alliance will endorse plans to hand over all combat duties to Afghan forces by 2013 and withdraw most of the 130,000 foreign troops stationed there by the end of 2014, according to Reuters.
