COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A hearing on the firing of a former Columbia police chief deputy has been delayed after the city banned cameras from the proceedings even though the employee wanted them there.
Isa Greene's grievance hearing was scheduled for Thursday morning, and she asked it be open to the public. City Human Resources Director Pamela Benjamin decided to allow paper notes and tape recorders, but not video equipment.
Benjamin insisted she was acting on the advice of a city attorney, then postponed the hearing to get more legal advice
State law says cameras are welcome in any open meeting in South Carolina.
Greene was fired for her role in the investigation of South Carolina Hospitality Association lobbyist Tom Sponseller, whose body wasn't found for 10 days after he committed suicide.
