They feel that the bill will add a burden to local business.

COLUMBIA -- Several groups are speaking out about a controversial bill Tuesday.

The measure would give tax incentives to lure large retail shopping centers, just like those given to new manufacturing plants, in an attempt to create more jobs.

Tuesday, critics are telling lawmakers why they oppose the incentives lawmakers are considering for a Charleston mall.

Advocates say they are trying to shed light on what would be a closed door issue otherwise.

"Right now, the only side of the debate they you are hearing is from those who would benefit from it," says Ashley Landess, of the South Carolina Policy Council.

The groups say that this sort of deal would favor out of state businesses while adding burden to local firms.
