COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A key South Carolina legislator says he expects a move to impeach Gov. Mark Sanford will have traction when the legislative session begins in January.

GOP House Judiciary Chairman Jim Harrison told a convention of the state's judges Thursday that a bill to force out the Republican governor could have the support to be passed from his committee to the House floor.

Any House member can start the process by filing a bill seeking impeachment. It would likely first go to a Judiciary panel headed by GOP Rep. Greg Delleney, who tells The Associated Press he supports impeachment.

The governor's office says it will not comment on what Sanford's foes may or may not do.

The governor and his travel have been under scrutiny since he admitted to a yearlong affair.
