Democrats in South Carolina will kick off their convention weekend Friday with two events – the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and Rep. Jim Clyburn’s Annual Fish Fry.

The 2009 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, a yearly fundraiser for SC Democrats, will feature a keynote address by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire.

Elected in 2008, Shaheen is the first woman in U.S. history to serve as both a governor and U.S. Senator. The University of Mississippi graduate has been a champion of public education and health care.

The dinner is slated to begin at 7:00 PM at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Over at the Municipal Association Parking Garage, Rep. Jim Clyburn will hold his “World Famous Fish Fry.”

This annual event began in 1992 before Clyburn was elected to Congress as a thank you to dedicated Democrats.
