COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina voters are deciding whether state and local governments can invest more money in the stock market and also being asked to clean up a long-ignored provision about the age of consent for sex.
The three constitutional amendments are on Tuesday's ballot.
The first amendment would delete an item in the 113-year-old constitution setting the age of consent for sex for unmarried women at 14. The provision has been ignored for decades. State law sets the age at 16 for both sexes.
The second and third amendments would allow state and local governments to invest in stocks to pay for future retirees' health care and other benefits.
If they are passed, the amendments must be ratified by a majority of the House and Senate before becoming law.
