COLUMBIA (WACH/AP) --South Carolina Electric and Gas officials are showing off the site of the first new nuclear reactors in South Carolina in more than 25 years.

Company officials will give a tour to the media Monday at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Jenkinsville, where work has begun to build two new 1,100-megawatt reactors.

Last month federal officials approved construction and operating licenses for the reactors. They are the first built in the state since the reactors at the Catawba Nuclear Station came online in the mid-1980s.

The two reactors will be jointly owned and operated with South Carolina's state-owned utility Santee Cooper. The first reactor is expected to be on line by 2016; the second in 2019.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
