BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) -- A seafood processing company wants to bring a jellyfish processing plant to Beaufort County creating as many as 250 jobs.

The Beaufort Gazette reports that Millenarian Trading Co. wants to rehabilitate the shrimp docks in Port Royal and create the processing plant. Port Royal Town Manager Van Willis says the town council is considering a five-year lease for the docks.

The property is owned by the State Ports Authority but will be given to the town in a swap if the Port of Port Royal is sold to a developer.

The seafood company wants to catch Cannonball jellyfish, also called jelly balls.

During processing the jellyfish are dried and preserved before being shipped to seafood markets in Asia.
