COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Tourism leaders from across the state are meeting in Columbia to discuss developments in one of the state's biggest industries.

The Governor's Conference on Tourism and Travel is being held Monday through Wednesday. It's the 48th year that industry leaders have gotten together for the conference.

Tourism is a $15 billion industry in South Carolina, and this year the state is launching an ad campaign to attract tourists to less-visited areas in the state.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism is also working with a new ad agency, BFG Communications of Bluffton.

One of the speakers at Monday's opening session is Geoff Freeman, the CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. He's discussing national tourism trends.
