COLUMBIA (WACH)--  The Palmetto Compress warehouse is the last remaining building that represents Columbia's once booming cotton industry.  The historic brick building was built in 1917 and is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places

Currently the building is being used, but is for sale, which has sparked a debate in the community.  Many would like the new owners to keep the historic look to the Palmetto Compress, while others are okay with a facelift.

Supporters of the building keeping its historic look have set up a Facebook page in hopes the early 1900s building will remain the same.  Tuesday afternoon Columbia City Council members part of the arts and historic preservation committee will meet to discuss if they think the building should keep its old time look.

Once they come to a decision they will recommended their decision to the City Council.
