GREER, S.C. (AP) -- Hundreds of employees were evacuated during a fire at the BMW plant in Greer.

No one was hurt in the fire that started around 9:15 p.m. Thursday. The company's fire department and the Pelham-Batesville Fire Department extinguished the blaze about an hour later.

BMW spokeswoman Sky Foster says the fire started in the roof of the construction area around the BMW X3 assembly warehouse. Foster says the fire was far from employees in the assembly hall but the entire warehouse was evacuated.

Officials say between 800 and 1,000 workers were evacuated.
