COLUMBIA S.C. (WACH)—it is another Monday that will leave smiles on drivers faces as the price of gas continues to drop in the Midlands.  According to ColumbiaGasPrices.com, the average price of a gallon of gas dropped 8.2 cents over the last week to $2.96.  The national average also continues to decline, however, at the much slower pace of 7.9 cents, to $3.45 a gallon.

Gas prices in the Midlands are 33.1 cents a gallon lower than they were this week a year ago, and 24.4 cents lower than a month ago.

"The national average has now dropped to its lowest level since February 4," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Gasoline can be found as cheap as $2.73 per gallon today in Taylors, SC. While this certainly isn't going to be the price of every station, a majority of gasoline outlets are featuring prices that have come down significantly in the last month, similar to that of the sentiment of Chicago Cubs fans," DeHaan said.
